Arnold has started its Hometown Hero banner project, honoring past and present members of U.S. armed forces.
Custom Banners recognizing these people will go up on Michigan Avenue's 31 light poles that go through the shopping plaza at the Water Tower just off Jeffco Boulevard. There will be only one banner per pole and honorees must be from Jefferson County.
Banners will be a little less than two feet wide and a little taller than three feet. Costing $100 each, they will display the person's name, a photo, and which branch of service they were/are in. Military status (memorial, veteran, or active duty) and rank are optional. Images will appear both front and back.
The banners will be put up in mid-January of next year and will stay up through October and possibly on into early November. This will be a test year, and if more than 31 people purchase flags, the city may look for more poles or spaces that they can use.
Once the banners have been taken down, the friends, families, or Jefferson County community members who purchased them will get the option of keeping them or having the city use them again the following year.
With the application deadline being October 30, all information must be sent to or dropped off at the Arnold Recreation Center, 1695 Missouri State Road, #2004 before any banner printing can get started.
