Eden Prairie’s Polar Plunge is a chilling charity event held every year at Lake Riley, and 2020’s brave participants now have less than a week to brace themselves.
The goal of this event is to raise money for the upcoming Special Olympics of Minnesota. During last year’s Polar Plunge, the event was able to break a record for fundraising in the city by collecting $115,577 worth of donations. The event has been ongoing for 13 years and its official website states that it has raised more than $1.3m since its inception.
By mid-February, almost 250 people had already signed up to participate in the Polar Plunge and they have pledged more than $30,000 towards the cause. Middle School students who cannot participate in the main event can take part in the Cool School Plunge, which will be held this Friday, March 6, right before the main event.
The organizers are happy to announce that they will be receiving sponsorships from the Timberwolves, Lynx, Twins, United, Wild, and FOX Sports North. They have all pledged to support the cause by donating funds and equipment to the 5th Annual Pro Sports Plunge. Big companies like to sponsor such events by handing out Promotional Products such as swimsuits.
Minnesota Pro Sports teams will be showing their support by hosting a free tailgate party that can be attended by non-plungers and plungers alike.
The Polar Plunge is scheduled for Saturday, March 7, from 10:00 am at Riley Park.
