Maggie Heurung, who serves as the Three Rivers Park District’s associate planner, stated that:
“People were really excited. The public, they were overwhelmingly giving feedback that they wanted a north-to-south regional trail. People really wanted a trail that would be able to link them to those other trails and into existing parks.”
The new trail is set to connect Eden Prairie’s Bryant Lake Regional Park to Eagle Lake Regional Park which is located on the border for Plymouth and Maple Grove. It will also connect to popular trails such as the Lucre Line Regional Trail, Medicine Lake Regional Trail, Minnesota River Bluffs LRT Regional Trail, and Lake Minnetonka LRT Regional Trail. Graphic design could be used to illustrate how these trails meet.
According to Heurung, the Eagle to Bryant Lake Regional Trail will be 10 feet across and will support several modes of travel including walking, skating and cycling. The study to assess the feasibility of connecting these trails started in 2017. The study came to an end this past spring and it included community feedback.
Funding for the trails is yet to be approved however the planning stages are expected to be completed early in 2021.
