The Eden Prairie Historical Society has decided to purchase a new park bench and place a plaque on it in memory of Ernie Shuldhiess, who was a former member of the board.
Shuldhiess first moved with his family to Eden Prairie in 1957. He settled in fast and fell in love with the community, which he always went out of his way to help. His family home was close to Riley Lake in an area now known as Riley-Jacques Park.
Part of Eden Prairie High School’s graduating class of 1966, his classmates remember him for his sunny attitude and his physical prowess which won him accolades in basketball and track events. When he graduated, Shuldhiess went on to serve as an Electronics Specialist in Vietnam.
One of his many passions was history. Anyone visiting his home would quickly notice that the walls of his home office were covered with photos and newspaper clippings of events that he felt were of particular importance. Several of the photos currently being used by the Eden Prairie Historical Society were collected by Shuldhiess.
A lot of his work can be found at www.edenprairiehistory.com which is a website he personally curated and oversaw the graphic design for. He took the clippings that he used to put on his walls and posted them on the website for all the world to see.
The park bench commemorated in his honor will face Lake Riley, which was one of his favorite spots.
