The idea for the drive came from a long-time donor who will be matching all the donations made during the Minnesota Food Share Campaign. PROP Food Shelf is a non-profit organization working with a reduced number of volunteers due to the implementation of social distancing rules. Implementing this drive is one way that the organization hopes to be able to help with the viral crisis that has gripped the world.
Janet Palmer, PROP’s executive director, said:
“We’re just really ramping up, not only for much more volume in people needing food but also financial support.”
Normally, PROP Food Shelf has about 30 volunteers helping the staff to give out food and manage donations. At present, Palmer says that there are no more than five working there at a time. The organization has been forced to stop collecting items from grocery stores because there is not enough staff, meaning Corporate Gifts from grocery stores would go a long towards helping communities like this.
Palmer is grateful for all of the support the community has offered. She feels that the donation drive is all the more vital because fewer people will be able to make regular donations.
