Departing board members say goodbye

During their final meeting of 2020, the departing members of the Eden Prairie School Board reflected on how they have served the community.

The board members who are leaving are Terri Swartout, Holly Link and Elaine Larabee. The new members who are taking their places are C.J Strehl, Beth Fletcher and Kim Ross, meaning some new business card printing orders are sure to be placed in the coming weeks.

Superintendent Josh Swanson mentioned a few of the outgoing members’ accomplishments, including the start of a 10-year plan that will upgrade the curriculum and facilities at Design Pathways.

Swanson had plenty of praise for Larabee, who was the chair. He praised her work on fostering public trust and resolving the board’s financial issues, while also mentioning the security and safety measures implemented and the promotion of renewable energy sources.

Larabee responded by saying:

“It has been a blessing to serve this community. I’ve been supported by a wonderful family and lots of friends who give me lots of really good advice. And I will leave this with just a ton of wonderful memories.”

Larabee got further praise from Holly Link, who said that together they were able to ensure that the school district is in a strong financial and academic position. Boardmember DD Dwivedly thanked Link for helping him to make it through the election process when he was vying for a seat on the board, stressing that although they did not always agree on matters, they shared a great friendship.
