Sylvan Lake school district holds vote on funding

A school district in Sylvan Lake is preparing for a special school election in a few weeks, with area residents voting on a building and site sinking fund.

The vote on the Pontiac School District Sinking Fund Millage Proposal is set to hit the ballot in Sylvan Lake soon, giving area parents and registered voters the opportunity to voice their opinions on the proposal while learning about its benefits for area students.

The proposal is on the ballot again after previously being approved by voters in 2020. The sinking site millage will generate proceeds, with the proposal using those proceeds to make repairs and improvements to the Pontiac School District’s facilities and buildings. The spending will be audited by the state to ensure that all of the money is going where it is intended. Flyer printing can be used to share more information about the purpose of a vote like this with area residents.

The vote, if approved, would grant the school district an estimated $3.1 million in revenues during the first year alone. The money will benefit present and future students, providing access to a better education for local youth.

The vote will be held on Tuesday, November 4th, from 7:00 to 8:00 am. Voters will cast their ballots at the Sylvan Lake Community Center, with the results being released in the following days.
