Spring comes to Farmington Hills

In order to help gardening enthusiasts get ready for the season, the Farmington Hills Beautification Commission has scheduled its yearly seed swap.

As the weather starts warming up, Michigan gardeners are able to start thinking about planting. The last frosts in the state usually occur around the end of April, making it safe for young plants and seeds.

Each year, master gardeners and amateurs alike bring plants from their gardens, which they can swap for other plants that are sometimes exotic or new to them. Attendees are asked to come early, and bring their wagons, gardening gloves, and other tools, as well as their favorite seeds and plants, which they can exchange for others that interest them.
Master gardeners, members of the Garden Club, and members of the Beautification Commission will all be available to answer any questions attendees may have.

The is the 16th year for the event, which is formally known as the ‘Spring Plant and Seed Swap’. The event will take place on May 21 from 8:30 am until 10:30 am. The location is the parking lot of the Heritage Park Visitors’ Center, at 24915 Farmington Road. The swap will go ahead no matter what the weather.

Commission members might work with a postcard printing company on a card to mail to residents, reminding them of the date.
