The workshop will be an American Heart Association Heartsaver class. Even those who have no medical background or experience can benefit from the course. The intention is to promote readiness for crises and calamities, including cardiac arrest situations.
Jon Unruh, the Farmington Hills Fire Chief, commented:
“We know every second counts when it comes to cardiac arrest and traumatic injuries. Thanks to community members who participate in this lifesaving course, and our highly skilled EMTs and paramedics, Farmington Hills has one of the highest cardiac arrest survival rates in the United States.”
Every year, about 350,000 cardiac arrests take place outside of hospitals, according to data from the American Heart Association. If CPR is given right away following cardiac arrest, bystander involvement can increase a person's chances of life by two or even three times. Participants will be taught how to identify cardiac arrest as well as what to do while waiting for first responders to arrive.
Participants must be 12 years of age or older. Pamphlets and flyer printing can help share information about an event.
The workshop will take place at the Fire Station on Drake Road in Farmington Hills on November 20th.
