A unique fair that raises hope as well as funds is coming to Farmington Hills.
Hope Lutheran Church is the host of the annual Alternative Christmas Fair, which kicks off the holiday season. Instead of traditional vendors, specific charities and non-profit organizations are invited to take part. They have unique gifts for sale, as well as offering attendees the chance to donate specific items, which the organization can then resell. The organizations keep all the proceeds.
In the 18 years since the fair was instituted, it has raised more than $300,000 for dozens of charities and non-profits. Among the vendors to have taken part in the past are the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries, who had soup mixes for sale; Hope Endeavors, which brought hand-made jewelry; Project Linus, which sold table toppers and decorative Bags; On the Rise Bakery; and Giving Hope and Nurturing Abroad, which provided authentic handcrafted items from Africa. Many other unusual items will be available this year, as the vendor's list is still being finalized.
The Alternative Christmas Fair will take place November 14, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, at 39200 W. Twelve Mile Road. Admission is just $1, and homemade cookies and lunch items will be available. Prices are being kept low and will be enough to cover such expenses as table rental and advertising. Flyer printing can be used to create a handout for attendees at events like this, listing vendors.
