One brief shining moment in Farmington Hills area

A beloved musical is coming to the Farmington Hills area soon, inviting audiences to go back to the time of King Arthur.

“Camelot,” the classic musical from Lerner and Loewe, will have a limited run soon, courtesy of the Four Corners Musical Theatre Company. The original Broadway production of the show opened in 1960 and ran for 873 performances.

The cast of the original featured some of the biggest names in showbusiness: Richard Burton as King Arthur; Robert Goulet as Sir Lancelot; and Julie Andrews as Queen Guenevere. The show was so popular a film version was made, and it is revived regularly.

The production also featured many songs that have become standards, including “If Ever I Would Leave You,” “What Do the Simple Folk Do?”, and of course, “Camelot.”

The plot retells the story of a legendary love triangle. King Arthur, young and idealistic, hopes to found a kingdom built on dignity and honor, virtues embodied in his Knights of the Round Table. He finds his hopes and beliefs tested when Guenevere, his queen, falls in love with Lancelot.

The timeless story opens April 22 and runs through April 26. The performances on April 22 through 25 are at 7:30 pm; there is a matinee on April 26 at 2:00 pm. All performances are at the Farmington Civic Center, about three miles from Farmington Hills. Brochure printing can create attractive programs for events like this.
