Middle Belt Road closed for renovations

Over the next few weeks, Oakland County's Middle Belt Road will experience closures and detours due to a significant $275m project aimed at repairing and restoring a bridge.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the ongoing I-696 Restore the Reuther Rebuilding Michigan initiative is currently focusing on bridge improvements. As part of this project, the attention has shifted to the Middle Belt Road bridge that goes over the I-696 in Farmington Hills. As a result, the bridge will need to be closed temporarily to facilitate the necessary upgrades.

State officials have announced that Middle Belt Road is undergoing repair work on the bridge, necessitating its closure over I-696 at least until mid-August. However, they have clarified that the road will still be accessible to local traffic from 11 Mile Road to 12 Mile Road, leading up to the overpass during this period. Printing services can be used to put up signage for detours in such cases.

For drivers heading north on Middle Belt, the detour route will involve going east on 11 Mile Road, then heading north on Inkster Road, and finally, west on 12 Mile Road to reach Middle Belt. On the other hand, southbound drivers on Middle Belt will be directed to go east on 12 Mile Road, then proceed south on Inkster Road, before finally heading west on 11 Mile Road to return to Middle Belt.
