The Farmington Players are winding up their season with a classic Neil Simon farce, ‘Rumors’.
The comedy is full of mistaken identity and physical humor and a lot of slamming doors and will be presented at Farmington Players Barn, located in Farmington Hills.
The show is set in the distant past—1988—when there were no cell phones, no Facebook pages, and people were able to spread rumors the old-fashioned way, by word of mouth. The story starts when the Deputy Mayor of New York shoots himself in the ear (not deliberately, and the wound is minor) the day he is hosting a party to celebrate his wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, his wife is not around and the guests start to arrive while the man lies bleeding in another room. When the visitors realize neither the deputy mayor nor his wife is available, they start trying to “contain” the damage, with hilarious results.
The show runs April 25 through May 17, with performances on Fridays at 8:00 pm, Saturdays at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 2:00 pm. There’s one Thursday performance, at May 15 at 8:00 pm, which is labeled ‘Thrifty Thursday’. Tickets are on sale through the website or by calling the theater.
