Farmington Hills residents invited on health walk

Last month, Farmington Hills hosted the first of this year’s ‘Walk with a Doc’ sessions, and the second will take place in just over a week.

Once a month, Farmington Hills residents who would like to get some medical advice can take part in a chat about their health. Farmington Hills' Botsford Hospital, in conjunction with the city, offers a program that allows residents to meet doctors informally. The program runs each month from spring through fall, in Heritage Park.

The program allows residents to meet one of Botsford's health care professionals. The doctor comes to the park for approximately an hour, during which time he or she talks briefly about their specialty, and then walks through the park, talking with residents.

Caroline Schairier, who coordinates the program, says the doctors provide a lot of good information to those who come to talk with them, and everyone enjoys walking. Schairier says people can walk or attend the lecture, but she encourages them to do both. She notes that the doctors have been very helpful, and Farmington Hills residents enjoy the program.
City officials might consider working with a postcard printing company to design a card to mail to residents, explaining this outstanding program.

The walks are free, and held the third Thursday of each month, at noon, no matter the weather. The next is June 18. They start from Heritage Park's Nature Center, and are suitable for all ages. Healthy snacks are provided as well.
