Keeping personal information private is vitally important, and Farmington Hills has created an event that will help residents in this effort.
Identity theft is a serious problem, and correcting the damage caused when this occurs can be expensive and time consuming. In order to help older residents stay safe, Farmington Hills is offering a free shredding event. Not only can people safely destroy material with personal information on it, but they can also dispose of any items cluttering their homes, and recycle at the same time.
Residents who would like to take advantage of the service will be allowed to bring as many as four paper grocery Bags of documents to the event. They are asked to bring only personal documents to be shredded, so no trash, junk mail, or magazines.
According to the Farmington Hills Public Services Department, shredded paper cannot be recycled, as it jams the sorting machinery. Placing shredded paper in plastic Bags is also going to cause jams, as the plastic tangles. The sponsored shredding event is the best way to handle these substances.
The free event is scheduled for December 8, from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon, in the parking lot of the Costick Center. People are asked to drive up only, and the event is for residents of Farmington Hills and Farmington who are 50 years of age and older. Flyer printing can create handouts to notify people of events like this.
