The City of Farmington Hills Special Services Department Adults 50 & Better program, along with the Farmington Area Commission on Aging, held their yearly Volunteer Breakfast recently – an event that gives the community the chance to say thank you to those who provide necessary services to area seniors.
The theme of the event this year was ‘Thanks A Million’, and it took place in the Costick Center, with over 200 people in attendance. Musical entertainment was provided by Sid and Jennifer Zack. Organizers of events like this can use flyer printing to create biographies of the honorees.
This year, a new category was created – the Community Commitment Award, which is given to a business or organization based in the community that goes the extra mile to serve the older adults in Farmington Hills and Farmington. The award went to Tim Surma, who manages Busch's Fresh Food Market in Farmington Hills.
Individuals over the age of 50 are eligible for the Gold Award, which this year was presented to Von White and Diana Lis. Lis volunteers as a bookkeeper at the American Legion Auxiliary, C.A.R.E.S., the Xemplar Foundation and the Xemplar Club, and also organizes a fundraiser. Von has been volunteering at the Hospice of Michigan for 20 years.
An award for those over 75, the Margaret Loridas Diamond Award, went to Rolland Walt, who volunteered for the Call for Action at WXYZ, and volunteers with Jewish Vocational Services as well.
