Holiday fun in Frederick

Although it's high summer, plans are already being made to make the holidays both memorable and delicious.

Organizers have announced the date for the Scents & Sweets Competition and Auction, which will take place at the William R. Talley Recreation Center on North Bentz Street. The event features gingerbread houses and holiday wreaths, some made by professionals and others by talented amateurs. People who attend the event are encouraged to pick up a ballot at the door, and will be able to vote for their favorites. Based on the way attendees vote, the creators will be able to win prizes.

Some of the gingerbread creations and wreaths will be placed in the yearly Scents & Sweets Silent Action. Winning bidders will be able to take a special piece home for the holidays.

Creators compete in the category of amateur and professional wreathes; a gingerbread creation made by an individual child; a gingerbread piece made by a group of children; gingerbread made by a teenager; gingerbread-amateur; and gingerbread-professional.

Previous winners have presented gingerbread pieces with themes including a “Sledding Hill,” “Christmas at Key Largo,” and “Christmas Around the World.” Wreathes have included “And to All a Good Night.” While there are three prize categories—first, second, and third—not all are awarded.

The competition is set for December 3, at 5.30 pm, and is free for everyone to attend. Banner printing can be used to provide suitable decorations for events like this.
