Pier Six Pavilion, a concert venue, could soon be under new management, according to an article in the Baltimore Sun.
The Baltimore Development Corporation (BDC) recently announced it was negotiating with Live Nation and SMG to take over in 2017. The contract will run for seven years with a provision for a three-year extension, but has to be approved by the Board of Estimates. At present, The Cordish Cos. Manages the pavilion, but did not wish to renew the contract.
The BDC asked for proposals from potential managers, specifically asking for a company that could lengthen the concert season, increase the number of events scheduled at Pier Six, increase the profitability of the venue, and generate a capital improvement program that would be used to fund upgrades.
The city said it chose to go with Live Nation and SMG because they had a proposal that would create the biggest capital improvement scheme, and gave Baltimore the most optimal returns. SMG operates a number of arenas and stadiums, including Louisiana’s Superdome and the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore. Live Nation, SMG’s partner, runs a number of venues of all sizes, including the Warner Theatre in Washington, and the Fillmore Silver Spring.
