A show that celebrates the life of one of music's most influential artists will run in Baltimore in early 2021.
“Summer: The Donna Summer Musical” gives audiences a look at the singer in three phases of her life: the young, insecure, pre-teen “Duckling Donna”; the up-and-coming “Disco Donna”; and the singer at the height of her career, “Diva Donna.” Three different actresses play the artist at the various points in her life, and the show is packed with the hits that won Summer many Grammys.
However, it also deals with the darker aspects of the singer's life, and the challenges she had to overcome. The show not only recreates the disco age Summer embodied, but it also intends to give the singer the recognition she deserves. Summer was known for her vocal range, but her biggest impact may have been as a songwriter, with some of her albums offering more difficult music that got lost in the glitzy disco era.
The show opened at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego in 2017, and transferred to Broadway the following year. It will open at 8:00 pm on February 9, 2021, at the Hippodrome at France-Merrick Performing Arts Center in Baltimore, and runs through February 14. Banner and poster printing can be used to create exciting advertising for events like this.
