Baltimore is hosting its version of a convention for comic-lovers this weekend. Known as Comic-Con, these gatherings first took place in San Diego, but are now found all over the world.
Unlike its San Diego cousin, Baltimore's convention features a range of comic Books writers, artists, and editors, and far fewer television and film personalities. The media guest of honor is Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in the original Star Wars films, but most of the guest list is comprised of those who work with comics rather than any other type of media.
Among the presentations sure to draw a crowd is one by Karen Johnson, who is the Director of the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center. Schulz is the creator of the well-known Peanuts comic strip. Johnson's talk will center on unpublished art by Schulz, including works from childhood, drawings he did for friends, sketches made during travels, and concept art that reflects his earliest ideas about Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the rest of the Peanuts gang.
Baltimore's 14th annual Comic-Con will be open September 5 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm; September 6 from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm; and September 7 from 10 am to 5 pm. It all takes place at the Baltimore Convention Center.
