A new hotel, which will be a Marriott Residence Inn, is slated to be built near Johns Hopkins Hospital.
The hotel has been in the planning stages for over two years, during which time new developers joined the project, and the Marriott Corporation was selected as the brand.
The master developer for the hotel is Forest City-New East Baltimore Partnership. Scott Levitan, the partnership's director, said the inn's cost is estimated at approximately $80m, which has already been secured. Levitan hopes to see work begin on the project by September of this year. Other partners in the effort include the Pyramid Hotel Group and Greenebaum & Rose Associates.
The inn will have 194 rooms and an additional 20,000 square feet that is designated as retail space. A new park has been proposed as the site of the building, which will be called the Residence Inn at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Plans call for additional expansion at a later date, when approximately 7,000 more square feet of retail space, and another 100 hotel rooms, would be added.
The developers might consider working with brochure printers on a booklet that describes the inn's location, its amenities, and the retail space available. They could then make the brochure available to commercial realtors who could present it to their retail clients who are considering leasing in the area of the hospital.
