Baltimore to organize vegan fundraising smackdown

The organization BotaniCuisine will be holding a benefit event in September at Power Plant Live! in Baltimore.

The Vegan Burger Smackdown is a fundraiser where restaurants and gourmet chefs can compete to see which cook can create the best vegan slider-sized dish. The festival will also have desserts, side dishes, and alcoholic beverages available for eventgoers to try. Guests are asked to bring personal bottles for drinking water. All attendees must order their food in advance to help eliminate food lines and let the chefs know how many sliders are required. There will be areas for pets and kids at the smackdown.

BotaniCuisine is an organization founded by Nancy Poznak, who is a Vegan Hospitality Consultant and Community Health Education Specialist. Her group hosts in-person social events and virtual meetups to educate the public about veganism. Poznak’s website has several educational pages covering topics like ingredient replacements, vegan restaurant guides, and the meaning of being vegan. Restaurants can contact Poznak for help with recipe selections and menu designs.

The burger smackdown will be held on Sunday, September 18 from noon to 4:00 pm. The fest will limit attendance to 100-200 people every 60-90 minutes to ensure guests maintain safe distances. Those in charge of community food fests like this can use banner printing to make outdoor Signs that reiterate the event’s rules to attendees.
