A new Mexican restaurant has opened in downtown Baltimore. Those craving south-of-the-border flavors should plan to visit La Calle.
La Calle defines its menu as modern Mexican, but the restaurant serves a lot more than tostadas and tacos. Nonetheless, traditional items such as these are available, such as a taco filled with tenderloin beef tips served with radish, cilantro, and onion.
More unusual items include tlacoyo con pollo, which is a dish made of shredded chicken with lettuce, black beans, and cheese, served on a shell of masa. The restaurant’s seafood items include salmon, pan-seared and served with an aioli made of truffles, and the mushroom known as huitlacoche.
La Calle does not serve alcoholic drinks, though it does have the popular Jarritos soft drinks available. The sodas are made in Mexico.
Reviews on social media for the new restaurant have been impressive. One reviewer praised the customer service as well as the food, while a second specifically mentioned the queso fundido and queso fritto, as well as La Calle’s guacamole and chips, as being outstanding starters.
