Candela Cucina is now open in New Bedford. The city’s newest restaurant is in the historic Candleworks building in the downtown area.
Located on Water Street, it was built in 1815 when whale oil was used in lamps to illuminate homes. Luxury candles were crafted from sperm whale oil and became symbols of upper-class and affluent homes.
The owner of the restaurant, Stephen Silverstein, said that he has had his eye on the property for some time due to the comfort and warmth of the building. He expressed his excitement about the restaurant, which will serve Italian food in a mid-century and upscale design.
Candela Cucina will feature traditional Italian favorites and innovative contemporary creations. The interior has been redesigned with two intimate dining rooms and a cozy bar area. Local artwork complements the space. With the warmer months in mind, a covered patio and bar is planned.
Local Print shops can help spread the word about such new restaurants with Flyers, Posters, and other printed materials.
Silverstein is known for his restaurateur expertise. He founded the Not Your Average Joe’s restaurant in Dartmouth on Route 6 and this establishment has grown to six states with 25 locations. This was the first eatery in the portfolio of restaurants of ServedWell, which includes Sail Loft in Dartmouth, Cisco Brewers New Bedford, The Black Whale, and the Brotherhood in Nantucket.
