The theme for the 2025 Seaport Art Walk has been unveiled by New Bedford Creative. “Revolution Evolution” will be the theme.
This is an annual event that transforms the waterfront of the city and the Seaport Cultural District into an art experience in the outdoors. Jessica Bregoli-Sparling, curator and artist, established the Seaport Art Walk in 2013. This was the first large scale outdoor installation of public art in the city. Now each summer, murals and sculptures fill the Seaport District and share stores of the working waterfront of the city.
This year’s theme is designed to honor the rich history of the city as a center of innovation and revolution as throughout its history it has greatly contributed to the culture and history of America. The Art Walk next summer is looking to inspire works that connect the past of the city and many influential figures, such as Frederick Douglass and Massasoit Ousamequin, among others.
Proposals from artists are being sought by New Bedford Creative. The proposed projects should explore how evolution represents gradual development while revolution brings about rapid change. Those proposals selected will examine these forces at work that contribute to the story of New Bedford. Poster printing can be used throughout a city to seek such proposals from artists.
The proposals are due Sunday February 23 with up to $2,500 available per piece of artwork for new proposals.
