The Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston (A&BC) and the New Bedford Economic Development Council (NBEDC) have created an agreement in which the necessary investments will be made by A&BC to preserve the building and operate it as a nationally recognized center that will be available to the public to elevate the national stature of the city as a center for the arts and spur economic growth and development.
Such buildings can take advantage of banner printing to inform residents of such planned projects.
Among the upgrades to the building will be repairs to the façade, roof, and interior and updates to the mechanical system. A robust needs assessment focused on arts and culture will be carried out before the facility is opened.
Mayor Jon Mitchell said that the partnership between the A&BC and the NBEDC will enable the Star Stone building to be revitalized and serve as an economic driver and anchor institution in downtown New Bedford. He added:
“The A&BC has a proven track record of success with arts-based developments, and they will be a welcome addition to our city.”
Identifying and securing necessary funding sources will also be the responsibility of the A&BC. Support in terms of communications, advocacy, consulting, and strategic planning will be provided by the NBEDC.
