At the beginning of July, Richmond took another step forward with its Main Street Streetscape Project.
The city's commission voted to adopt an order that would commit funding to the project during its meeting. According to Jim Barnes, the Mayor of the city, the funds should total a little more than $5m.
Cities that are putting together revitalization projects can use local printing services to produce materials needed at each phase of the process.
Now that Richmond has designated funding for its Streetscape project, the next step is for Rob Minerich, the city manager, to solicit bids for construction. The city hopes to move quickly through this next step.
Companies that want to solicit a bid need to create one for the entire Streetscape project, as well as five individual bids for each of the locations.
The city came up with an initial concept for the project's design last July and finalized after town hall meetings that took place last October. The city has also finished engineering and surveying the areas.
During the meeting, the commissioners considered an ordinance for Georgia Street to be renamed "40 and 0 Drive." The name change is in honor of Madison Central High School's baseball team, which had an undefeated season in 1982. The commissioners also considered an ordinance that would change the zoning of properties on East Main Street and Smith Ballard Drive.
