Daniel Boone Elementary School has its own version of a celebrity, and recently, students at the school decided to help their favorite celeb out.
Freya, a German Shepherd and Great Pyrenees mix, has worked her way into the hearts of students, parents, and teachers at the school. Freya belongs to Bryan Tucker, and the two of them have the responsibility of walking the school's hallways and stopping into classrooms, protecting the safety and happiness of students and faculty, on Tuesdays.
The school decided that a recent Tuesday was ‘Freya Day’. On that day, the students raised money to help pay to have her spayed and to give her a new vest, as the one she currently wears has become too small.
Schools that adopt a mascot can use the name or image of the mascot on their Promotional Products, such as school T-Shirts.
Tucker is a volunteer with the elementary school's Watch DOG (Dads of Great Students) program. His own children are not elementary age anymore, but he still comes by on Tuesdays to patrol the school's perimeter, help out in the cafeteria, and assist teachers in the classroom.
Freya has been accompanying her adoptive dad since February of 2018.
During the recent fundraiser, the school collected nearly half of its goal amount by the midday point. Students were giving what they could, in some cases just a few cents, because of their appreciation for Freya.
