Enjoying a loaf has not always been easy as heading to the grocery store, and a Richmond experience will offer a taste of what it was like to do the family baking in days gone by.
A day has been scheduled for Fort Boonesborough State Park that will offer a deep dive into baking practices from the past. The guests will be invited to learn about the bread oven that has been added to the site, and they will even have a chance to see it in full operation.
Those who register for the day will enjoy hands-on baking, and as they will even be learning about yeast and other leavening agents, they will be making their bread preparation discoveries right from scratch. They will spend some time using the corn gritter and hominy block, and they will find out how a clay oven can be used to prepare a variety of baked goods.
Many people have an interest in historical cookery, and this sort of event can give them a time where they can learn even more. Offering each registrant a set of cards that have the recipes used printed on them will make it possible for them to prepare dishes from the past, and a printing services company can supply them.
With home baking being a valuable skill as stores experience shortages and people spend more time indoors, this special activity is set to be hosted at the state park on June 6. It is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am and wrap up at 5:00 pm.
