Richmond invests in local parks

Public parks have been on the mind of Richmond residents lately. The city's department of parks and recreation recently finished work on a new playground at Camp Catalpa Park, after delays caused the project to be postponed from July.

Erin Moore, the director of Richmond Parks and Recreation stated that the park "looks good" during a board meeting held at the start of October. The park has scheduled a ribbon cutting for the new playground on October 23 at noon.

Along with the new playground, Camp Catalpa park has two miles of trails and a recently completed disc golf course.

Richmond is also considering creating a new park at the site of an old water tower, near North Street. The city help a public hearing in early October to address concerns and to hear people's ideas and opinions on the potential new park.

Cities seeking out opinions sometimes use flyer printing to get the word out about meetings. Those who attended the park hearing had some concerns to share with city officials. Some were concerned about water drainage from the property and about the quality of the soil, causing Moore to point out that there are matters to consider and examine more closely before construction on the new park begins.

Despite the concerns, a number of residents made positive statements about the addition of the park.
