Richmond artfully celebrates equine heritage

It might be surprising for some to learn that the Breeders' Cup, one of the big annual horse races, has never been held in Kentucky before. That will change at the end of this month.

From the Kentucky Derby to numerous horse farms and breeders, the state is known as "horse country", but has yet to host this particular event. To celebrate this change, the Richmond Area Arts Council is hosting a special exhibition titled ‘Equine Artistry’.

Designed to coincide with the Breeders' Cup World Championship, the exhibit will put horse-themed works of art on display. Artists in a variety of genres will be represented. Sculptor Dacelle Peckler will show a wire sculpture of a horse, while painter Lloyd Alvis Agee will have an oil painting of a horse in the show. Other artists whose work will be shown include Jeff Enge, Kelly Hoke, and Judy Ridings. The arts council could use Brochures to highlight the artists in the exhibition and spread the word about it.

Equine Artistry opens to the public on Friday, October 15, in preparation for the races on October 30 and 31. The gallery is open from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm on weekdays. There will be a special opening reception on the 15th, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, which will include an artist talk at 6:00 pm. Most of the artwork in the exhibition is for sale.
