Hundreds of high school seniors in the Richmond area are gearing up to graduate in a few weeks and are looking forward to donning a cap and gown and walking with their classmates.
There is just one hitch -- because of the number of students graduating and the size of the venue where commencement ceremonies will take place, some schools are issuing tickets to students, to give out to friends and families.
People will not be admitted to the events without a ticket. Both Madison Southern High School and Madison Central graduation ceremonies will be ticketed.
Schools who need to produce tickets for end-of-the-year events can use local Print shops to create them. The tickets will be given to students in advance of the big day. Students at Madison Central will each get 12 tickets while those from Madison Southern will get 18. The only people allowed in without a ticket will be babies under the age of two.
Explaining the reasoning for the tickets, community education director Erin Stewart pointed out that the stadium can fill up quickly, especially when there are more than 400 students graduating. Officials from the venue started requiring tickets for the two high school events last year, citing safety concerns as a reason.
Madison Southern will hold its graduation ceremony on May 25 at 7:00 pm. Madison Central's ceremony is scheduled for the next day, May 26, at 11:00 am.
