The Madison County Farm Bureau's hard work in encouraging people in the Richmond area to drive safely has paid off.
During the Kentucky Farm Bureau's annual meeting, the Madison County Farm Bureau received the top prize in the 2018 Safety Challenge Awards contest.
The county's farm bureau won the award thanks to its ‘Don't Text and Drive’ safety event. Over 400 people attended the program, the goal of which was to stress how important it is eliminate distractions while driving.
Local organizations that earn statewide recognition can use poster printing to highlight their achievements and to further connect with their community.
The Madison County Farm Bureau also took home the Gold Star Award of Excellence during the annual meeting. The award is designed to honor the work of Women's Committees in promoting agriculture, developing educational initiative, participating in leadership development programs, and other programs that help to support the county's Farm Bureau.
The farm bureau also received the Gold Star Award of Excellence for its Young Farm program. The Young Farm Program award recognizes the achievements of the young farmer committee in areas such as leadership development, educational initiatives, state competitions, and promotional initiatives.
Individual farmers from the Richmond area were also recognized at the annual meeting. Lauren Rowlette and Marcus Wiseman took home the top awards in the 2018 Outstanding Farm Bureau Youth contest. The two were chosen from a group of 22 finalists, who were in turn selected from a pool of around 400 farmers.
