Local banker receives top award from Richmond chamber

During its annual awards banquet, the Richmond Chamber of Commerce gave its highest award to a local banker.

In front of a crowd of more than 250 people, David Benge was given the Wallace G. Maffett award at the very end of last month. The award is named for a former mayor of Richmond, who was known for his commitment to the local community and efforts to help those in the community.

Benge, who work at Cumberland Valley National Bank, was surprised when he found that he was going to get the award. He accepted it during the ceremony with tears in his eyes and a few words of thanks.

Chambers of Commerce can use booklet printing to let people know more about the award recipients for the year. Although Benge was shocked to earn the Maffett award, he is actually no stranger to recognition by the Richmond Chamber, having received the Howard and Neal Dedication Award in the past for his devotion to Chamber services.

Along with his activities with the Chamber, Benge works with a number of other organizations. He is on the Madison County Court Appointed Special Advocates board and serves on the Chemical Destruction Citizens Advisory board. Also, he is president of the Hospice Care Plus Board and is a past president of the Chamber of Commerce.
