Eastern Kentucky University has changed the format of its graduation ceremony this year.
Along with having several separate convocations for each academic college, the school will hold a university-wide commencement ceremony, honoring more than 2,700 degree candidates. The ceremony will take place outdoors in the evening.
Crit Luallen, the lieutenant governor of the state, will deliver the commencement address. Governor Steve Beshear appointed Luallen into this positionin the fall of 2014. Luallen has a long history of governorship in her family, as two of her ancestors served as the Governor of Kentucky during the 19th Century.
The university can use brochure printers to inform candidates for graduation and their families of the schedule for commencement weekend. Three colleges have scheduled their convocations for This Friday, May 15. The College of Arts and Sciences will hold theirs at 9:30 am, the College of Business and Technology will hold theirs at 11:00 am, and the College of Health Sciences will hold theirs at 2:30 pm.
On May 16, two colleges will hold their convocations. The College of Justice and Safety's ceremony will take place at 9:30 am and the College of Education's ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
Along with Lt. Gov Luallen, graduating student Stephanie Smith, who is receiving a Master’s degree in public health, will address the class.
The university-wide ceremony will take place at 7:00 pm this Friday at the Roy Kidd Stadium. It will end with a fireworks show and be followed by a reception for graduating students and their families.
