Next week, the 2014 campaign for Operation Christmas Child Madison County will kick off. People interested in participating are invited to attend, whether they hope to help out on their own or plan on leading a group of volunteers.
Founded in 1993, the goal of Operation Christmas Child is to bring shoeboxes full of holiday gifts to children around the world. Since its founding, the organization has provided presents to more than 113 million children in some of the most deprives places on the planet.
To promote the upcoming launch event, Hasty Martin, who volunteers with the organization year round, will talk about her recent trip to Uganda, during which she gave out the gift-filled Boxes. Martin and the other organizers will be able to use poster printing, perhaps from a local professional Print company, to create awareness of the kick-off event and of the organization itself.
The goal of the Madison County branch is to collect 28,500 shoeboxes this season, and the initiative gets underway on October 9. This year, the organization as a whole aims to collect enough boxes to give gift to 10 million kids. The boxes will be collected at a number of drop-off locations in Richmond and the surrounding area from November 17 until November 24.
