Residents of Richmond and the surrounding area are about to get the chance to see how an artist works.
Marilyn Foulke, a textile artist and native of Louisville will be dropping by the Kentucky Artisan Center at Berea, near Richmond, to demonstrate her art and craft.
Describing herself as a "self taught quilter," Foulke started her career as an artist in 1997, when she began making wearable art, wall hangings, and quilts. Before that, she was a math teacher for more than 30 years.
Speaking to the Richmond Register, Foulke stated:
"My work is not constrained by ‘rules’ or patterns, and I enjoy creating outside the box. I love to experiment with unusual embellishments and materials."
She works with materials such as silk and cotton and often hand-dyes her fabrics to obtain the exact color she is looking for. The techniques she uses include machine quilting, appliqué, and piecing.
The art center could use Postcards and Flyers to spread the word of Foulke's demonstration, which begins at 10:30 am tomorrow, April 9. Along with promoting her talk, the center can also highlight the fact that it sells her work year-round. People who are unable to attend the demonstration can still visit the art center, which opens from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm everyday.
