State Botanical Garden of Kentucky celebrates spring


The Arboretum State Botanical Garden of Kentucky in Lexington is set to celebrate spring with a number of classes and special events this April. The botanical garden has 100 acres and is operated by the University of Kentucky.









On April 6 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Spectacular Spring will be held in the children’s garden. This event will have real animals, craft activities, flower giveaways, and local organizations. The garden will be open after this event.





The Annual Volunteer Fair and Orientation takes place on April 6 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Visitor Center. Volunteers can help with vegetable gardens, native plants, rose plots, and participate in educational events.





Photography With Frank Becker will be held on April 10 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center. Learn how to take outdoor portraits and about proper lighting. Snacks will be served.





On April 20, a Volunteer Refresher and Orientation will be held at 10 a.m.to noon. Learn what is new at KCG and meet other volunteers in the Visitor Center.





Houseplants 101 with gardener Hannah Moore will be held April 20 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Learn about caring for houseplants and how to select them at the Visitor Center. Lexington has Print shops that provide Logo Design for organizations like this.





Arbor Day will be held on April 27 from 1-4 p.m. at the Visitor Center. There will be experts available in several subject areas. These areas are energy, gardening, birds, butterflies, invasive species, forestry, and environment. Vendors will have plants, trees, shrubs, and birdhouses.
