Romantic musical to be performed in Lexington

'An American in Paris' is set to be performed in Lexington this March, taking place at the historic Lexington Opera House.

'An American in Paris' is a stage musical based on the 1951 musical film with the same name. It incorporates songs by the composer George Gershwin and lyricist Ira Gershwin, and a script by Craig Lucas. Choreographer Christopher Wheeldon adapted the film musical to the stage.

The music first premiered in Paris in December of 2014. In April of 2015, it moved to Broadway before closing in October 2016. It won a total of four Tony Awards, including best choreography and best orchestrations. Alongside these, the play won 10 other awards. These include three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Theatre World Awards, and four Drama Desk Awards.

The plot of the story takes place in Paris in the year 1945, right as the war is ending. It involves the drama of three men falling in love with the same woman. The three men are the American painter Jerry Mulligan, the French singer Henri Barrel, and the pianist Adam Hochberg. The love interest in question is the dancer Lise Dassin.

The musical will be performed at various times from March 11 to 13. More information can be found on the Lexington Opera House website. Promoters for events like these may be interested in flyer printing services for promotional purposes.
