EnerBlu Inc. is set for a change to its company Letterheads, as it has revealed that it intends to shift its headquarters to Lexington from California next year, bringing more than 100 jobs to the city.
Meanwhile, the battery manufacturer wants to open a plant in Pikeville. This move should lead to over 850 jobs being created within the city.
EnerBlu Inc. may have been influenced by a decision of the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA). This body has suggested that it could employ incentives worth $30m secure a vote of confidence in the local economy. The resources would be spent over a period of 15 years.
Michael Weber, the executive chair of the business, said:
“You cannot imagine how thrilling it is to play a part in helping revitalize a region and put coal miners back to work through retraining and good jobs. It is tremendously gratifying to be more than just a company that sells products, but to also make an impact on people's lives.”
The Pikeville production center will make batteries that can be recharged. The items should then be used to power military vehicles, commercial trucks and buses.
Kentucky has its advantages as a business location, with plenty of workers available and power costs relatively low.
