It's time for two activities that indicate spring is on the way to Olathe.
The Qlathe BBQ Championship, as well as the Qlathe Cornhole Championship, are both on the schedule to help welcome the warmer months.
Registration is open now for the BBQ event, which is hosted by American Barbecue Systems. Last year, 66 teams, including 33 who came from Olathe itself, cooked up barbecue to the delight of attendees. The title of Grand Champion in 2019 went to Man Meat BBQ.
Teams that register for this year's event will have a team stall measuring 20 feet by 40 feet; one circuit carrying 20 amps; one commemorative shirt, with the option of purchasing more; and one commemorative pin, again with the option of purchasing more.
A second event is taking place at the same time-the Qlathe Cornhole Championship. Grass Pad is the host for the afternoon, which features two tournaments, with 16 teams in each. Cash prizes will be awarded.
The fun begins at 3.00 pm on March 13, with the first round of the cornhole tournament. The second is the same day at 6.00 pm. The barbecue event is scheduled for March 13 and 14 at Lone Elm Park, 20921 West 167th Street. This is a new location for the championship, and the events are free for the public to attend. Flyer printing can provide informative handouts for attendees at events like this to show participant profiles.
