Soldering the subject of Olathe class

A creative event that teaches the practical skill of soldering will be held in Olathe soon.

The Indian Creek branch of the Olathe Public Library will be the site of an event that will teach teenagers in STEAM subjects how to solder. STEAM is the acronym for the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.

The class will meet in The Lab at the library, where they will solder metal together to make creatures. The Lab will provide the materials necessary.

The Lab houses a number of different tools and machines people can use at their discretion, most of which can be used for free. All library patrons are allowed to use The Lab, but adults have to accompany children under eight. Equipment at The Lab includes a 3D printer, a vinyl cutter, and a laser cutter and engraver. There is also a fiber arts section with sewing and embroidery machines; and a craft center. The Studio is open to people who want to work on audio or visual projects. The Lab also offers power tools, hand tools, and a formbox vacuum former.

The event is set for February 13, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, at which time registration will also close. The program is exclusively for students in sixth grade to twelfth grade. Print shops can provide extensive instruction materials for events such as this.
