On May 4, at a regular meeting of the Olathe School District (OSD) board, officials released a survey that showed 94% of parents think the district is doing a good job educating their children. They gave the district either an A or a B for its job performance.
Parents gave Olathe School District schools even higher marks for safety, with 97% of the respondents saying their children feel safe in school. Almost 5,000 parents were polled, up from approximately 3,000 last year. However, parents of middle and elementary school students polled slightly lower, but still gave above 90% approval.
Alison Banikowski, deputy superintendent of the district, noted there were spots that needed work, but she believes the Olathe School District has reason to be proud of its work.
Other results of the survey include 91% of parents saying the OSD compares favorably with neighboring districts, 93% approving of the way the district's facilities are maintained, 91% saying the OSD's technology is up-to-date, and 88% approving of the OSD staff.
Teachers also answered a poll about the district, and were very positive. An overwhelming 94% of the teachers agreed on three matters: that Olathe schools provide high-caliber education to their students, that the schools help make the community stronger, and that they are proud to say they work for the school system.
