The Olathe campus of MidAmerica Nazarene University has hired K&W Underground Inc. to install a fiber-optic network at the school. According to a May 28, 2015 news item, K&W is based in Olathe, and has a contract with MidAmerica Nazarene that includes consultation, a complete design of the network that will be developed for the university, and installation of that network. The installation will cover the entire campus, which comprises 105 acres, and use 14,000 feet of fiber optics to connect 23 buildings.
Work is slated to begin early in June with completion scheduled some time in September. After the network is installed, upgrades will begin immediately. Rex Schick, president of K&W said the network and electronic design will allow the university to manipulate data at high speeds today, and far into the future as well. School administrators agreed, saying the upgrade should provide the school with adequate bandwidth for at least the next 15 to 20 years.
K&W is becoming an expert on this type of network. The company recently finished a similar installation that connected 44 buildings that are part of the Olathe School District.
University officials might like to work with a catalog printing company to modify their catalog to include information about the new network, which will be an important selling point for potential students and their parents. They could make the catalog available to guidance counselors at area high schools.
