The local state department will host an education session aimed at volunteer children’s advocates this September.
“Olathe Education Advocate and Parent Rights Training” is open to those who would like to learn about their parental rights, as well as those who wish to become education advocates. It is aimed towards those interested in helping children who have disabilities yet lack someone to speak on their behalf, and serves as a training platform for people who would like to represent these underserved groups. Their efforts would be directed toward the schooling system, where the advocates would occupy the role of the parents.
The advocates would represent those whose parents have lost their parental rights due to varying circumstances. The session will also be a refresher course for those who currently serve as advocates. Once confirmed as an advocate, a person should be ready and willing to assert their role as the legal decisionmaker for the child and foster a loving environment.

The event will be held on Wednesday, September 27 at the Ball Conference Center, 21350 West 153rd Street, Olathe. It begins at 9:00 am and ends at 3:00 pm.
