Cedar Lake will be hosting the 2021 edition of the Olathe Fishing Derby, with competitions designed for young and old fishers alike.
The annual event is hosted by the Olathe Parks and Recreation Department and will include two competitions, one for children aged 3 to 15, and one for seniors over 60. The awards are given at a trophy presentation at the end of a busy morning of fishing. The youth event awards five trophies based on age and gender divisions, and typically attracts over 600 participants and almost 1,000 grown-up volunteers and spectators, attracting young fishers from the Kansas City area and beyond. The seniors will also have their own competition taking place alongside children to create an intergenerational event.

Along with outdoor events like the Fishing Derby, Olathe Parks & Rec also runs educational programs such as aquatics, arts, and dance for children, and activities for seniors throughout the year. The 2021 Olathe Fishing Derby will take place at Cedar Lake Park on the morning of June 5.
