Olathe is getting set to celebrate the Fourth of July with a bang. According to an item posted on the city's website, the annual celebration is known as the City of Olathe Fireworks Show. Olathe has ruled that it is illegal to possess or use fireworks in the city, and instead has created a public show put on by professionals in the field.
The fireworks show has proven so popular that city officials have some tips for residents who plan to attend the event. Spectators should be prepared for heavy traffic, and try to arrive at the venue early. If possible, organizers suggest public transportation be used.
Drivers can find parking at Meadow Lane Elementary School, located at 21880 College Boulevard; Olathe Northwest High School, which is located at 21300 College Boulevard; or at the site of the show itself.
The spectacular show is scheduled for July 4, 2016, at 9.30 p.m., at the College Boulevard Activity Complex (CBAC), located on South Valley Parkway. There will be restrooms available in the parking lots of Olathe Northwest High and Meadow Lane Elementary, and throughout the CBAC. Party-goers can hold tailgate parties in the parking lots, but alcohol, open flames, and fireworks are not allowed. If it rains, the event will be rescheduled for the following evening.
