Sharon Beggs, the media specialist at the library, says the collage of flags represents the home countries of the school's students, adding everyone has responded positively to the collage, and enjoy learning more about the cultures represented by the flags. A quote encircles the collage, from Malala Yousafzai, a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. It says:
“One child, one teacher, one book, one pen, can change the world.”
Beggs came up with this display idea last year, when the library hosted a classroom for English Language Learning. Beggs says both she and her clerk connected with the students, and then she thought of doing a collage in their honor. In cases like this, officials might use graphic design to further incorporate the artwork into school materials.
A data expert determined that among them, the students studying English came from 25 different countries, and yearbook students started doing research on the nations' flags. The Graphic Communications Department for the school district printed the flags and mounted them on some board, and then put the collage together.
Dennis O'Connell, who teaches industrial technology, and Ryan Hull, physical education instructor, built the frame to hold the display, which now takes up most of one of the library walls.
