Olathe West High School is due to open in 2017, and Jay Novacek will be the principal.
Novacek is currently athletic director and assistant principal of Olathe Northwest High School, and will remain there through the end of the year, when he will leave to begin preparing for his new position.
Gwen Poss, who is the principal of Olathe Northwest, has known and worked with Novacek for 19 years. The two first met when Novacek taught English at Olathe South High, where Poss was principal. When Olathe Northwest opened with Poss as principal, Novacek joined the faculty.
Poss has watched Novacek's work throughout the years, and has seen him move smoothly from teaching to administration. Poss describes him as being “good at juggling a lot of balls at once”, and says he has common sense and understands people well. His best quality may be the fact he puts his students first.
Novacek believes his experience has made him well rounded, and he looks forward to opening Olathe West. He intends to treat everyone—students, faculty, parents, and staff—with respect, and believes he will receive it in return. His popularity with his current students appears to bear out his philosophy.
School district officials might consider creating Brochures for district residents giving them details about the new school and its personnel.Get a Free Quote for Brochures
