The clinics will aim to train coaches of school and youth teams to adapt to players of different ages, skill levels, and capabilities, helping to further player growth. They will be free to local coaches, with clinics in Olathe, Webb City, and Kansas City. Each clinic will be led by Webb City High School coach John Roderique, with 12 state championships to his name, and Rockwood Summit High School coach Mike Bellars.
In addition to the clinics, the former NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the Mahomies Foundation will be distributing 15 $2,000 grants to area youth leagues. Interested programs are encouraged to apply for the grants online. Programs like this typically use the internet alongside tools like brochure printing to let people know how they can benefit. The foundation has also contributed to other causes in the Kansas City area, like the renovation of Martin Luther King Junior Park.
Mahomes explained the importance of the project to him in a press release:
“Smart coaching can make a lasting and positive impact on kids and their sports development. I’m happy to partner with USA Football to support healthy football practices for coaches and youth athletes across the K.C. region.”
The USA Football clinic for youth coaching will take place in Olathe on July 27, with the follow-up clinics taking place on July 31 and August 7.
